You want the most polished third-person action horror game on the market. RE4 Remake takes the legendary 2005 original and rebuilds it with modern controls, stunning graphics, and refined encounter design. Leon's knife parry system adds genuine skill expression, and the Mercenaries mode provides endless arcade replay value. Every encounter feels hand-crafted, and the pacing from the village siege to the castle to the island is masterfully orchestrated.
With a 93 Metacritic score, it's one of the highest-rated games of its generation. If you've never played any Resident Evil game, this is the single best entry point for the franchise.
Buy RE Village If...
You want more variety and genuine scares. Village is structurally unique — each of its four "lords" controls a different section of the map with a completely different gameplay style. Castle Dimitrescu plays like classic survival horror. House Beneviento is a first-person puzzle horror sequence with zero combat that's among the scariest moments in the franchise's history. Moreau's area is environmental horror. Heisenberg's factory is pure action. No other RE game covers this much tonal ground in a single playthrough.
The first-person perspective also makes the horror hit harder. When a Lycan lunges at you in first-person, it's viscerally different from seeing it happen over Leon's shoulder. If fear is what you're after, Village delivers more of it.
