Summer Game Fest 2026: What to Watch and What to Expect
Summer Game Fest 2026 kicks off this week with a stacked schedule of showcases, starting with PlayStation's State of Play on June 2 and building to the main SGF show on June 5. Xbox, PC Gaming Show, and dozens of indie spotlights fill the gaps. Here's what to watch, when to watch it, and what we expect to see.
📅 THE SCHEDULE
June 2 — PlayStation State of Play (2 PM PT)
June 2 — Black Voices in Gaming (12 PM PT)
June 3 — Shacknews Indie Showcase (2:30 PM PT)
June 5 — Summer Game Fest Main Show (2 PM PT, Dolby Theatre)
June 5 — Day of the Devs (follows SGF)
June 6+ — Xbox Games Showcase, PC Gaming Show (dates TBC)
TBC — Nintendo Direct (not yet confirmed for June)
🎯 WHAT WE EXPECT TO SEE
GTA 6 Gameplay Reveal — Take-Two confirmed marketing begins this summer. With a November 19 release date locked in, a major gameplay reveal during or around SGF would align perfectly. Rockstar dropped Trailer 2 in May 2025 ahead of the showcases, so they may again pre-empt with their own event — but all eyes are watching.
Gothic 1 Remake Launch Coverage — Releasing June 5 (same day as SGF), THQ Nordic's ambitious remake of the 2001 cult RPG will be front and center. Reviews were embargoed until launch day, so expect first impressions flooding in during showcase week.
New Announcements & Shadow Drops — SGF 2025 featured multiple shadow drops (games available immediately after reveal). The two-hour main show typically features 30+ games, including world premieres. Last year's event featured Death Stranding 2 gameplay and several surprise reveals.
Indie Showcases — Day of the Devs and the Media Indie Exchange will spotlight 60+ upcoming indie titles. These are consistently where the best hidden gems of the next 12 months first appear.
Xbox & PlayStation First-Party Lineups — Both platform holders are expected to reveal their holiday 2026 and early 2027 slates. With GTA 6 dominating November, expect publishers to strategically position their own releases to avoid the collision.
🎮 GAMES TO WATCH
Beyond the confirmed showcases, the gaming community is watching for updates on several high-profile titles that could appear: any Dead or Alive 7 footage following the series' 30th anniversary announcements, FromSoftware's next project (whatever it is), and the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong release date.
We'll be updating this article throughout the week as announcements drop. Bookmark this page and check back after each showcase for our verdicts on everything revealed.
