Should I Buy The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales?
From the creators of Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default comes a brand-new action RPG in the HD-2D style. The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales launches June 18, 2026 on Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
WHAT IS IT?
Adventurer Elliot and his fairy companion Faie journey across four eras spanning a thousand years — from the present-day Age of Safekeeping back to the dawn of civilization — to lift a curse on Princess Heuria of Huther. Unlike Octopath's turn-based combat, Elliot uses real-time action with seven weapon types and fairy magic support abilities that combine for strategic depth.
The team (led by Tomoya Asano, the producer behind Octopath and Bravely Default) listened to extensive community feedback from two public demos, implementing improvements to combat flow, exploration, and quality-of-life features. The HD-2D art style — pixel characters against lush 3D environments — remains one of the most visually distinctive looks in gaming.

📌 THE BOTTOM LINE
The Adventures of Elliot is a BUY for HD-2D fans and action RPG enthusiasts. The pedigree is undeniable — Asano's team has a near-perfect track record — and the free demo lets you verify the combat clicks for you before spending $60. If you're tired of HD-2D or prefer pure turn-based combat, this might not convert you.
