Pokémon Sword vs Shield: Which Galar Version to Buy?
The series' Switch debut kept the version-exclusive formula alive with a genuinely notable gym leader split.

Sword and Shield split their box legendaries (Zacian vs Zamazenta) as usual, but also split entire gym leaders — Sword features Bea as its fighting-type gym leader while Shield features Allister with ghost-type, a more visible structural difference than the typical species-only split.

Both versions received the same paid Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra expansion content, so DLC availability isn't a differentiator here the way it sometimes is with other platforms' special editions — the core version choice remains about legendaries, gym leaders, and species exclusives only.
